Spring Break Stay-cation Ideas for Your Family

Spring Break Stay-cation Ideas for Your Family at Kids 'R' Kids Keller, preschool, daycare, childcare

Due to the current health situation, many parents with preschoolers are looking for ways to enjoy Spring Break at home this year. Just because families may not be traveling to a ski lodge or beach hotel, there are still many opportunities for fun right at home!

Play a Game

The typical board game will not do during a stay-cation! Balloon ping pong, an indoor golf course, or an outdoor obstacle course get the children up and active. Ever heard of “The Floor is Lava?” There is even a show on Netflix children will love watching for ideas. Families can make their own version with cushions, chairs, or whatever else is around the house.

Grow a Garden

Spring is the perfect time to start a garden! Visiting a local lawn and garden store will help families decide what will grow best in their yard. Under quarantine? Look around your kitchen! Seeds from tomatoes, avocados, berries, oranges, and so many fruits and vegetables can be used. No yard? Many seeds can be sprouted in glass jars indoors. This fun science experiment can teach preschoolers about botany, responsibility, and anticipation.

Plan to Camp

Parents do not have to own camping gear or go through the trouble of finding a campsite and packing for a trip. For the families that do own gear, they can set up a tent in the backyard or even indoors. No gear? No problem! Families can plan an indoor campout too. Make s’mores in the oven and sleep in sleeping bags in the living room.

Plan a “Yes Day”

A “Yes Day” sounds like exactly what it is—it is a day where the parents say “yes” to whatever reasonable requests the children have. The idea comes from the book, Yes Day! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Ice cream for dinner? Yes! A movie marathon in pajamas? Yes! Staying up past bedtime? Yes! With a few ground rules and a little bit of prep, this day will become one the children ask to do over and over!

Spring Break may look differently than it did in years past, but that does not mean it has to be dull. The vacation may have been canceled, but the fun has not!
