Teaching Your Preschooler to be a Team Player

Teaching Your Preschooler to be a Team Player

As parents, we try to equip our children with the necessary tools to become successful. One of the most valuable skills we can teach our preschoolers is to become a team player. Children who work well with others are often less selfish, and more cooperative, respectful, and self-sufficient. Take a look at the tips below on how to raise children who are team players.

Take Responsibility

Begin giving your child more responsibility around the home. Consider creating a chore chart or to-do list and hold them accountable for completing their tasks. You can even offer rewards when the list is complete. Another way for your child to learn responsibility is for you to encourage them to own up to their mistakes and shortcoming. This accountability and honesty will help them develop into a team player with integrity.

Join a Team

Signing up your child for a team, whether it’s a sports team or an academic one, will help them learn teamwork quickly! Teach them the value of each member by pointing out how much more successful they are as a team in comparison to on their own.

Promote Unity at Home

A great place to start practicing teamwork is at home! Encourage your children to help each other complete chores, projects, and even school work together. The atmosphere you create will demonstrate to your child the value of helping others.

Teach Encouragement

Help your child look outside of themselves, see the needs others have, and encourage them! Show your child they can encourage their friends by cheering them on and asking them what they have going on.

Even as adults, working on a team can be a challenge! Set a firm foundation for becoming a team player by teaching your children these skills at a young age. In addition to becoming a team player, your child will also develop their problem solving and people skills by understanding the need for teamwork.
