Independence Day Books for Preschoolers

Independence Day Books for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Highland Glen, preschool, daycare, childcare

Independence Day is a special time of celebration in America. There are many festive activities, such as parades, barbecues, and fireworks! As your preschooler is getting older, there are also new opportunities for them to learn more about the history of July 4th.

Here are some children’s book ideas that can help your preschooler learn more about the Fourth of July and its traditions.

The Declaration of Independence  by Elaine Landau

Though a longer book, there are specific pages that would be interesting for a preschooler. For example, pages 38-40 show a basic timeline (with pictures) of the Declaration of Independence. These same pages also show a picture of the first Fourth of July parade. The author also writes about how this historical document has been kept safe. The book ends with a chart of interesting facts.

Flags Over America  by Cheryl Harness

This book is filled with beautiful illustrations! It shows the different American flags from our history as a nation, as well as different colonial flags of the time.

A is for America, A Patriotic Alphabet Book  by Tanya Lee Stone

This is a whimsical rhyming alphabet book that goes through much of America’s history. It is geared for ages 3-5, making it a great fit for a preschooler.

Activity Books

Many big box stores will have Independence Day coloring and activity books available in-store. You can also do an online search for “Fourth of July coloring books” at many of these same box stores and find some great options.

Whether you and your preschooler go out and enjoy any Independence Day festivities in person, or if your family stays at home during the holiday, much fun can still take place as you make traditions together. Perhaps your preschooler can get a taste of the holiday by looking at some of these child-friendly Independence Day books.
