Thanksgiving Traditions with Your Family

Thanksgiving Traditions with Your Family at Kids 'R' Kids Highland Glen, preschool, daycare, childcare

Many people love Thanksgiving not for the turkey or the parade, but for the time spent with family and the traditions that we look forward to every year. Let your preschooler in on the fun and create a new tradition with them this Thanksgiving.

Food

Ask anyone what one of their favorite traditions are for Thanksgiving, and it’ll almost always have something to do with food.  Find an old family recipe, or pick something brand new just for you and your kids to make together. Whatever you pick, just have fun in the kitchen together. A great way to save this experience for next year is to take a picture of everyone in the kitchen together and type up the recipe on some nice paper. Laminate the whole thing, and it’ll last for years to come.

Movies

Watching a holiday movie every year is one of the most fun traditions to start because it brings the family together and creates chances for making memories more precious than any movie. Choose something family friendly and timeless, or let your kiddos pick the movie. Every year, you can make it a different experience by seeing the movie in a special showing, like at a drive-in or even a theatrical adaptation.

Decorations

From turkey hands to fall wreaths or even Christmas lights, making decorations for the house every year is a win-win, because you get handmade new decorations and heartfelt memories to go along with them. The longer your tradition continues, the more decorations you have to adorn your house with as you  look back on every year when you pull them back out.

Giving Back

The holidays are a time where people really take the time to acknowledge what they have and give back to those in need. What better tradition to start than one of volunteering and helping others? Teaching your preschooler at a young age to give thanks by giving back is a wonderful way to spend your holidays.

No matter what you decide to do for your new family tradition, as long as you’re spending quality time with your loved ones and having a good time, you’ll be sure to have something worth doing every year.
