Making Fall Crafts with Preschoolers

Making Fall Crafts with Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Greatwood, preschool, daycare, childcare

The weather is beginning to change again, and with it brings many beautiful colors and signs of autumn.  From pumpkins everywhere, to the beautiful leaves on the trees, to the acorns on the ground, fall brings a new kind of excitement with it.  It’s time to bring some of that nature inside and use it in artistic ways with your preschooler.  Here are three ideas:

Cardboard Acorn Wreath

Gather many acorns, some pretty leaves, maybe some straw, glue, and a piece of cardboard cut out like a wreath (or a sturdy paper plate with a circle cut out of the middle).  Make the wreath by gluing the leaves, straw, and plethora of acorns onto the cardboard.  Fill in all the gaps so you cannot see the cardboard anymore.

Leaf Rubbings

To make this colorful autumn picture, you will need crayons (preferably old, broken ones), 2 sheets of paper, and various types and sizes of leaves.  Place the leaves on top of one sheet of paper arranged so they aren’t overlapping too much.  Put the second sheet of paper on top of the leaves.  Using crayon, rub back and forth on the top sheet with the long side of the crayon.  Pretty soon you will see the shapes of the leaves coming through.

Pumpkin Painting

Painting pumpkins is a fun, colorful, and easy spin on carving them.  All you need is some washable paint, a paintbrush (if you don’t want to use your fingers), a pumpkin, some old clothes to wear and an imagination.  When you are finished painting, let it dry and then display them proudly. This activity would probably be better to do outside because of the messiness.

As you can see from the ideas above, seasonal arts and crafts don’t have to be expensive or include a lot of supplies.  Just use what is in your own backyard and have fun!
