Easy Ways to Keep Your Preschooler’s Room Organized

Easy Ways to Keep Your Preschooler's Room Organized at Kids 'R' Kids Greatwood, preschool, daycare, childcare

Preschoolers spend a majority of their time learning through play.  Play can be messy and they become overwhelmed when faced with the clean up process.  This is why their rooms are often in disarray.  Below are a few simple tips in helping your preschooler keep an organized room.

Everything Has a Place

Make sure every one of your preschooler’s belongings has a specific home when not being used.  This helps avoid toys being cluttered on the floor or under the bed because they don’t have a place to be stored.  Place a clothes hamper in your preschooler’s room for him to toss dirty clothes in, instead of tossing them onto the floor.  Organize like items and toy sets into bins or baskets so your preschooler knows exactly where to find the toy he wants.

Label Everything

Your preschooler may not remember which bin a set of toys came from when playtime is finished.  Label the toy bins as well as the shelf they are stored on to reduce frustration when putting toys away.  Label dresser drawers to help your preschooler know which drawers contain which items and help her learn to put away laundry independently.

Creative Storage Ideas

Utilize an over the door shoe holder for small items, such as your daughter’s Barbie collection or your son’s action figures.  Build a parking garage like this one for your son’s Hot Wheels collection.  Secure wall planter baskets to the wall at a child friendly height to hold books or stuffed animals.  When choosing bins for your preschooler’s toys look for ones which will fit under his bed.  Storing toys under the bed in bins will help reduce the unwanted clutter that sneaks under the bed and adds more storage!

Model

Babies are not born with the knowledge of how to keep a room tidy or organized.  Your preschooler will build this skill by watching those around him.  Model organization in other areas of the home, as well as helping him in his room.  Over time he will learn to appreciate a well organized room and be able to clean his belongings on his own.
