There is truly nothing quite like a heartfelt gift from a young child. Whether it is a homemade craft or an offer of loving service, the following ideas can be used to help your preschooler continue to give from the heart.
Crafting Ideas
- Help your preschooler collect a variety of pine cones or acorns. Next, use a glue gun to attach string or ribbon onto these to turn them into a fun ornament to give away as a gift. Your preschooler can also paint these or glue on googly eyes or sequins, etc. This ornament gift can then be enjoyed year after year.
- Purchase special air-dry clay. Have your preschooler use the clay to make handprints or footprints. Once it hardens, the dried clay can be given to someone special. Or, your child can mold the clay into a desired gift for a loved one. To make it more from the heart, your child can use the loved one’s favorite color to make the clay creation.
Service Ideas
- Help your preschooler think about a family member who has a particular need. Together, talk through ideas about how to give that person a gift of service. Perhaps it could be you and your preschooler raking leaves, offering to fold towels, or drying the person’s dishes.
- Help your preschooler make a “service coupon book” as a gift for a family member or friend. Your preschooler can draw service ideas on different pieces of paper. (Examples could include sweeping, dusting, or giving a big hug.) Bind these coupons together in some way. Your child can then give this to someone who can then redeem at the ideal timing.
Whether it is a homemade crafty gift or an act of love, there are plenty of enjoyable and creative ways for your preschooler to give from the heart.
