Summertime Boredom Busters for Preschoolers

boredom busters

Longer and warmer days are something parents and preschoolers alike look forward to. However, it seems like only a few days into the summer we are already hearing about boredom from our children. If you find yourself out of ideas for your preschooler this summer, check out some of these boredom busting ideas.

Make a Yummy Treat

Use the extra time we have in the summer to make a yummy treat from scratch with your child. Let them pick something they really enjoy. Some ideas include iced brownies, lollipops, or even homemade ice cream!

Do a Science Experiment

There are tons of science experiments out there that are fun and easy to do at home. One of the most popular right now is making homemade slime! Your child will love making the slime, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Once the slime is made, your child will have a new toy that they will want to play with for hours on end.

Create a Craft

Crafts are a great go-to boredom buster because there are so many options and varieties for every child’s interest. One of the most fun crafts we’ve done is squirt gun painting! Fasten watercolor paper to an easel or tree. Then, have your child fill up small water guns with liquid watercolors. Your child can squirt the water guns on the paper to create a beautiful and vibrant piece of art. Before taking these paintings inside, make sure you let them dry in the grass.

Go on a Summer “Field Trip”

It is probably not possible to go on a fun outing every time your children are bored this summer, but there are lots of inexpensive options out there if you’d like to go on a summer “field trip!” Some of our favorite easy and inexpensive trips are visiting a local museum, going berry picking, spending time at the library, and going to swim at the pool!

Using these ideas to bust boredom this summer, you will be able to help keep your preschooler active, creative, and hopefully off their screens for at least a little while.
