Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Looking for a way to take the family on vacation without the hassle (and cost!) of travel?  Plan a staycation this year! Take advantage of the sites and activities available in your own town this year.  Your preschoolers will love getting to enjoy the local attractions that are just a short drive from home! Here are seven themes and activities for planning your next family staycation:

Animals:

Visit the aquarium, zoo, pet store, or a local petting zoo (or all of them) to give your preschoolers the chance to see many different animals in their natural habitats.  Talk about animals that live in the water versus animals that live on land and what makes them different!

Water:

Make a special trip to an indoor water park or pool.  Take advantage of splash pads in the park! Live within driving distance of a beach?  Pack a lunch and take your sand toys to spend the day making sand castles and picking up seashells.

Museums:

Discover a new museum by visiting prehistoric dinosaurs, a travel or train museum, learn about history, or find free kids’ activities at an art museum.  Your preschoolers will have fun and will learn a little along the way!

Parks:

Pack a blanket and picnic lunch, try out new food trucks, run out energy on the playground, or put together a nature scavenger hunt!

Books:

Visit the library or a book store to pick out new books for the week.  Encourage your child to journal about their week, or write your own story!

Hiking:

Make a stop at a specialty store for hiking supplies, discover new trails in your city’s parks or a nearby national park.  Go camping in your backyard and be sure to make your own trail mix for the trip!

Movies:

Book tickets for a matinee movie or watch a play at your children’s theater.  Help your preschoolers write and act out their own play! Since days are getting longer, make plans to visit a drive-in movie theater!

You’ll have so much fun with your family with these great staycation ideas!
