Three Grocery Items to Make Your Child’s Breakfast a Happy ONE

Most preschoolers are picky eaters, which can result in some testy moments when trying to convince them to eat a healthy breakfast. However, if you keep nourishment and taste in mind, it’s easier than you think to get them eating better without sacrificing flavor. Make sure you always keep these three products in stock at home for a quick, healthy breakfast.
Spread: Peanut Butter
If you’ve gotten into the habit of making buttered toast in the mornings, it’s time for an overhaul. Swap out the fatty butter and instead give your child some whole grain sliced bread with a lean layer of peanut butter on top. Peanuts and peanut butter can be high in fat if eaten liberally, but just a dollop is actually healthier than many alternatives. If your child has a peanut allergy, be sure to look for “no-nut butters,” as well as sunflower seed butter, soy nut butter or coconut butter. Peanut butter and its alternatives also make great dips for vegetables. And while we’re on the subject of dips…
Dip: Hummus
Hummus is a miracle worker. When combined with vegetables like carrots or celery or a carb like pita chips, it can turn a bland breakfast into a tasteful morning. Hummus is low in calories and comes in a variety of dips. Start the day off with this multi-purpose grocery item that you can count on.
Mix it Up: Yogurt
A preschooler can’t have cake or ice cream for breakfast, no matter how much they plea for it. However, a quick cup of yogurt for breakfast gives a kick of cool sweetness they can’t get much anywhere else. If your preschooler complains about the taste of basic vanilla Greek yogurt, try sweetening it with honey and stirring in diced fruit like strawberries. What’s more, you could go all the way with a fruit, yogurt and granola parfait! Make one yourself at home, or find a parfait on many fast food menus for a guilt-free, on-the-go breakfast packed with fiber, nutrients and lots of great taste!
