Your preschooler may be too young to understand the way light reflects and refracts in water droplets, or the visible spectrum of light, but they can still celebrate and learn about rainbows! National Find a Rainbow Day on April 3rd. On this holiday, you and your child can explore the beauty and the special meaning of the beautiful rainbow! Here are some creative ideas to help you celebrate Find a Rainbow Day with your preschooler.
If you’re looking for an outdoor activity, why not take your preschooler on a nature walk?
Bring along a few crayons and paper, and encourage your little one to draw the rainbows they find in nature. You can even show them how to place leaves beneath the paper and lightly rub the crayon to create colorful nature rubbings.
For a fun craft project, why not make a rainbow suncatcher?
It’s a great way to get creative with your preschooler and bring a bit of color into your home. You’ll just need some tissue paper, scissors, a piece of wax paper, and school glue. Cut the tissue paper into pieces and let your preschooler glue them onto the piece of wax paper. Once it’s dry, hang it in a sunny window and watch as the colors come alive all over the room!
Bake a rainbow treat!
Some food coloring can turn plain vanilla cupcakes or sugar cookies into a rainbow feast. Your child will enjoy mixing up the colors in the batter, and they can learn about measuring and baking in the process!
