Summer break is coming to an end! Does this give you or your preschooler the back-to-school blues? If so, no worries, as there are some easy remedies to beat the back-to-school blues with your preschooler (and many of these ideas are free)!
Take your preschooler on a hike/go exploring.
You do not have to pack up and go far to explore with your child. Even taking your child on a simple park trail can bring about fun discoveries. Bring a basket or bag to hold any fun sticks or leaves that your preschooler finds along the way.
Bake together.
Whether store bought mixes or completely from scratch, you can take the last of the summer to bake cookies or muffins together. If you make large batches, you can freeze some for your preschooler to enjoy at a later time.
Make a sensory bin together.
Whether you use dried rice, beans, or uncooked pasta, you and your child can create a sensory bin together. Any simple cooking utensils can be used for stirring, dipping, or pretend tasting. Store the dried food in a container with a lid, and your preschooler can have a calming after-school sensory bin once school starts again.
Read a back-to-school child’s book.
D.J. Steinberg has a book called, “Preschool, Here I Come!” This book covers the variety of activities and excitement that is found at preschool. The public library should have other back-to-school books, too.
Go to the playgrounds one last time.
Attempt to go to as many playgrounds as possible before the new school year begins. Many elementary school playgrounds may still be available for public play. Fresh play spots make for fresh and unique memories.
Enjoy the last remaining days of this summer! Thankfully, many school memories are just ahead, too.
