Preschoolers and National Library Week

Preschoolers and National Library Week

National Library Week is coming up April 8 – 14, and there’s no better time to teach your preschooler about the importance of developing great reading habits. Needing some tips on instilling a love of reading in your child’s life? Continue reading below!

Take your child to get a library card!

Having a library card of their own will make your preschooler feel so special and grown up. Commit to taking your child to the library often and allow them to pick out some of their own books. When you get home from the library, don’t just let the books sit on the shelf, but read them with your preschooler and when you finish, go get some more!

Host a book swap with some of your preschooler’s friends!

Reading the same books over and over can get a little old. Odds are, your little one’s friends have books that your child doesn’t have, so why not swap books with them occasionally? Want to make an event out it? Invite a group of children and parents over for a book swapping party. Label all the books that will be swapped with a sticky-note number and then distribute numbers randomly to each child. Going in chronological order, when a child’s number is read, they get to go get the book that has that corresponding number!

Lastly, make reading a priority!

These days, technology seems to run our lives. However, there is something to be said for reading a physical book with your child. Instead of watching cartoons together on a Saturday morning, pile up a bunch of pillows and blankets and have a morning full of laughs and reading!

Books can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Share the gift of reading with your child this April (and every day)!
