October is the start of the fall and winter holidays, and there is always lots to do. From beginning to end, October is a fun month for preschoolers. You are bound to find local festivals and pick-your-own farms for finding the perfect pumpkin, but there are some activities you should make sure to do with your preschooler this fall.
Movie Night
Watch It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown with your preschooler. Charlie Brown and his friends will introduce your child to Halloween traditions, with picking pumpkins, wearing costumes, trick-or-treating, and attending parties. They’ll be ready for all the fall’s activities!
Pumpkin Fun
Pick a pumpkin, carve it up, and roast the pumpkin seeds! Perhaps my favorite fall activity! If you have never carved a pumpkin with your child, spend an afternoon opening up a pumpkin and cleaning it out. Talk about the parts of the pumpkin, how farmers use the seeds, and then roast the pumpkin seeds for a healthy snack.
Costume Planning
When it comes to picking a costume for my preschooler, I like to start asking him early what he wants to be for Halloween. That way there is plenty of time to change if he changes his mind! If you’re still not sure, check out these creative costumes made using just paper bags! Don’t be afraid to change it up this Halloween and let your preschooler get involved with helping to make their costume!
Check out The Teal Pumpkin Project! If you’re not already familiar, The Teal Pumpkin Project encourages non-food treats for trick-or-treating at Halloween for children with food allergies. Not only does this allow inclusion for children with food sensitivities, but it cuts down on sugar intake for your kiddos!
With these fun activities, October will be a month your preschooler will look forward to all year!
