New Parent’s Guide to Childproofing

New Parent’s Guide to Childproofing at Kids 'R' Kids Bella Terra, preschool, daycare, childcare

There are different parenting styles, and none is better or more ideal than the others. It really is just a matter of preference for how much childproofing to do or not. There have been many changes over the years, even since your preschooler was much younger. The following are some basic ideas for a new parent childproofing guide. While some ideas are for young toddlers, some can be useful for the preschool age, too.

The basic plastic plug outlet cover

Depending on the curiosity level of your child, this basic cover may serve you well, even into the preschool years.

Cabinet locks

Whether you want to lock up cleaning supplies, medicine, or any product of your choosing, there are a variety of cabinet locks. Some possibilities include magnetic locks, plastic slides, or adhesive strap locks.

Protective bumpers

If you have areas of your home that are at-risk zones for your toddler or preschooler to bump their head, you can purchase protective bumpers. The bumpers come with adhesive strips to put over the corners of dangerous hard surfaces.

Knob covers

You can purchase door knob covers to help keep a young child out of certain doors. You can also buy stove knob covers so that even your preschooler will have trouble turning on the stove.

Child gates

Child gates can help protect a child from falling down steps, but if your little one is a risk for leaving the house, a child gate may help a young child to stay back from entrances and exits.

Bathtub spout

Whether a baby or preschooler, a bathtub spout cover can protect the child’s head while the child moves around in the bathtub.

The list could go on and on, but much depends on your child’s age and—as mentioned before—your child’s curiosity level! Do not be afraid to go “overboard” or “underboard.” You know what is best for your family and child.
