As parents, we don\u2019t want to believe that our little angels are capable of harming others. But the unfortunate reality is, they are.<\/p>\n

Children at this tender age cannot fully comprehend the consequences of their actions, but in the long-term, their behavior affects them too.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not only harmful to others around them; it\u2019s harmful to their development as well. A child, who is used to pushing and shoving others to get what they want, will start believing this is the best course of action to get attention.<\/p>\n

Kids follow by the examples set for them. And while you may not encourage such behavior, it\u2019s possible they learnt it from elsewhere. But this can be stopped if you intervene early on.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what you can do:<\/p>\n

Monitor the Shows They Watch<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Shows like Tom & Jerry are still popular to this day but that doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019re appropriate. You may remember them fondly or even laugh at some of the scenes.<\/p>\n

But what your child watches today will affect their morals tomorrow. There are several shows that for the sake of being humorous focus on violence. Instead of being educational, they send the message that it\u2019s okay to hit and act out<\/b><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Monitoring what your child watches every day is one way to educate them that violence is not the answer. Take out the time to watch appropriate shows with your child to help with their early education.<\/p>\n

You can buy DVDs for Barney and Friends, the Teletubbies, Dora the Explorer, and even Maisy Mouse.<\/p>\n

All of these shows focus on learning something new. They focus on simple adventures that can engage your child\u2019s attention, while teaching them the importance of kindness.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t Lash Out In Front Of Them<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Don\u2019t lash out in front of your child or at them. Kids mimic their parents. If you and your partner get into a heated argument, either go outside or lock the bedroom door.<\/p>\n

Getting angry in front of your child conveys the message that it\u2019s okay to get mad. It tells them that anger solves everything.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re angry at your child for something they\u2019ve done, you should take a deep breath first. Then tell them in a calm tone that what they did was wrong. Then focus on solutions and tell them what they can do to make it better.<\/p>\n

This way, you\u2019re teaching your child to focus on healthy alternatives, and<\/i><\/em>\u00a0teaching them to manage their emotions.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t Say Hurtful Things<\/b><\/strong><\/h2>\n

If your child is vulnerable to making mistakes, don\u2019t say hurtful things to them. Don\u2019t say something like, \u201cWhy are you so stupid?\u201d or, \u201cYou silly child! You messed this up. It\u2019s YOUR fault!\u201d<\/p>\n

Negative feelings that kids harbor can turn into resentment. And when your child doesn\u2019t know how<\/i><\/em>\u00a0to express their anger, they\u2019ll lash out at others. They\u2019ll throw temper tantrums and when they see other kids doing better, they\u2019ll become irritated or jealous.<\/p>\n

Instead, be gentle with your child. Tell them, \u201cIt\u2019s okay, honey. Everyone makes mistakes,\u201d and tell them you love them. A happy child is a confident child. When a child feels loved, they\u2019ll share the love with others.<\/p>\n
