Gardening is a perfect spring and summer activity to complete with your curious preschooler! Try out these garden activities to teach your children where food comes from, and how much work it takes to produce our food and create your own farm to table garden!<\/p>\n

Start seedlings indoors<\/h3>\n

Especially if your area is still experiencing cold temperatures, start your seedlings indoors. Choose seeds that germinate quickly. Sunflowers, radishes, and snow peas are easy to start inside. Use clear containers, plastic cups or glass jars, to allow your child to watch the roots break through.<\/p>\n

Try out composting<\/h3>\n

Composting can be a great way to keep your kids busy from the kitchen to the garden. Kids can help sort your organic food items before discarding them in the trash to include in your compost pile. Items like egg shells, orange peels, and coffee grounds are perfect to include in your compost. Once items have composted, you can use the compost as you incorporate into your soil later in the season.<\/p>\n

Paint flower pots<\/h3>\n

Painting flower pots is a great rainy day activity that you\u2019ll be able to use outside in your garden! Once your projects are dry, allow the children to get their hands dirty and pour in soil and put plants in their pots. They can be responsible for watering their own plants, making sure not to overwater!<\/p>\n

Tend the garden<\/h3>\n

Let your preschooler help in the garden! Purchase their own basket and garden tools so they can help with the hard work in the garden. Show them how to pull weeks and to gently pick fruit and vegetables from their plants.<\/p>\n

Create a honey bee watering station<\/h3>\n

The honeybees in your garden need a watering stop! Use the watering plate of a ceramic pot or other shallow bowl. Include small rocks or succulents in the pot and cover with water. The rocks will give the bees a place to land and drink water.<\/p>\n
