How Your Preschooler and You Can Give Back This Season

One of the most satisfying experiences in life is giving back. And the best part is, anyone can do it, regardless of age. By giving your time or possessions to others, you can teach your child that helping other families helps your family too. The following are avenues you and your toddler can use to give back together:

Help Out at a Local Animal Shelter

If your family enjoys spending time with animals, consider volunteering at a local animal shelter. Animal shelters are always in need of volunteers to help with things like cleaning cages, feeding animals, and socializing pets. This is a great activity for animal-loving preschoolers as it’s both fun and rewarding. Contact your local animal shelter to find out about their volunteer opportunities.

Rake Leaves for Neighbors or Shovel Snow for the elderly

During fall and winter, you can help out your neighbors by raking leaves or shoveling snow (if you live in an area where it snows). This is a great way to get some exercise while also being helpful! Many seniors appreciate having someone shovel their walkway for them during winter, so this is a great way to lend a helping hand if you have elderly neighbors .If you don’t know anyone who needs help, ask around at your local community center or church – someone is sure to know someone who could use an extra set of hands!

Plant a Tree or Garden Together

You can help make your community more beautiful and eco-friendly by planting trees or flowers together. This is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise while also doing something good for the environment. You can buy tree saplings from your local nursery or Home Depot. Contact your local parks department or city government to find out about tree-planting opportunities in your area

There are many different ways to get involved in community service, so there’s sure to be an opportunity that’s perfect for you and your preschooler. Some ideas include making meals for families in need, collecting donations for a food drive or clothing drive, volunteering at a soup kitchen or homeless shelter, helping out at a senior center, or participating in a neighborhood cleanup day.

Whatever project you choose, participating in community service is a great way to teach your child the importance of giving back.
