{"id":93000000279,"date":"2022-06-23T16:23:23","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T16:23:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/suwanee\/?p=93000000279"},"modified":"2022-06-23T16:23:23","modified_gmt":"2022-06-23T16:23:23","slug":"new-parents-guide-to-childproofing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/suwanee\/2022\/06\/23\/new-parents-guide-to-childproofing\/","title":{"rendered":"New Parent\u2019s Guide to Childproofing"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-image wp-image--no-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-93000000280 \" src=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/suwanee\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/93\/2022\/06\/childproofing-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"New Parent\u2019s Guide to Childproofing at Kids 'R' Kids Suwanee, preschool, daycare, childcare\" width=\"2560\" height=\"1706\" \/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your child is a newborn and immobile, the need to childproof your home may seem a far way off.\u00a0 However, that little baby will grow and learn quickly and will be mobile before you know it!\u00a0 Childproofing is a big job and can be time consuming, so begin as soon as possible.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small Steps<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Break childproofing into small steps and work your way through the house room by room.\u00a0 Walk through each room and make a list of items that need to be safeguarded.\u00a0 Once you have done a walk through of each room, try seeing the room from an infant or toddler\u2019s point of view by crawling on the floor.\u00a0 You may notice items (i.e. cords, outlets, etc.) you don\u2019t notice while at an adult\u2019s height.\u00a0 Now that you have a list of items needing attention you can start working on the rooms you find the most crucial.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Secure Furniture<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any furniture that could be tipped over should be secured to the wall using anchors.\u00a0 This includes dressers, bookcases, television stands, televisions, or any large pieces of furniture which could be tipped over by a child.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chemicals<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Children do not understand the dangers of ingesting non-food items or medications.\u00a0 Therefore, any medications or items which are toxic should be put out of a child\u2019s reach or locked up where the child cannot access them.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cords<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You will also want to ensure curtains and blinds do not have drawstrings your little one can get tangled in, as any hanging cords are a strangulation hazard.\u00a0 Cords to electronic devices can be dangerous, as well.\u00a0 Your little one could get tangled in electrical cords or could use those cords to pull heavy electronics onto themself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outlets<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outlets are another danger for children. You will want to get covers to ensure little fingers or items held by little fingers cannot be pushed into the outlets.\u00a0 Self-closing socket plugs are a great option, as they are easily opened by an adult and do not become a choking hazard if your little one removes it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prevent Falls<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is recommended to place baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs to prevent your child from climbing up, and then falling down the stairs.
