Recess is a popular time of day for any preschooler, and it\u2019s a great way for your child to get exercise and fresh air during the day once she starts preschool. Here are some good tips to remind your child of when she starts preschool or daycare in order to ensure that she <\/span>remains safe while having fun<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t push<\/span><\/h3>\n

Many children are not violent in nature but can still get excited or impatient when playing around other children. Remind your child to never push others, especially if they do get frustrated or mad at another child. An easy way to teach this concept is to teach him to \u201ckeep his hands to himself.\u201d This covers everything from pushing, hitting, taking\/touching other people\u2019s belongings, and so on. It is also helpful to provide children with positively phrased expressions of what you <\/span>do<\/span><\/i> expect. \u201cNo hitting!\u201d tells a child what they <\/span>should<\/span><\/i> not<\/span><\/i> do, while \u201ckeep your hands to yourself\u201d tells him what he <\/span>should<\/span><\/i> do.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Take turns<\/span><\/h3>\n

Much like the \u201cdon\u2019t push\u201d rule, taking turns is important not only for good behavior on the playground, but also safety. Staying organized and respectful avoids aggression and accidents.<\/span><\/p>\n

No jumping<\/span><\/h3>\n

Most playgrounds do not have toys or contraptions that allow for jumping, and many preschool injuries are caused by jumping or leaping off of objects that should not be jumped off of. Always remind your child to keep her shoes tied as well\u2014if she doesn\u2019t know how to tie her shoes, tell her to always ask an adult to retie them as soon as she notices them becoming untied.<\/span><\/p>\n

Running safety<\/span><\/h3>\n

Recess is one of the only times your child is allowed to run, and it\u2019s good for her to exercise and get her energy out while she can. Merely remind her of where it\u2019s appropriate to run and where she could get hurt. Places like soccer fields where a game is occurring or in front of the swings is not the place to run or play any other game.<\/span><\/p>\n

What to do if she is hurt<\/span><\/h3>\n

Go over what to do if your child does get hurt. Remind her to breathe and ask for help. If she cannot get up and get a teacher\u2019s help herself, tell her to ask a friend or nearby classmate to get a teacher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
