Ready or not, here it comes! Preschool will be starting back up again shortly! Here are a few back-to-school preschool routines to get your preschooler ready for the school year to begin.
- Call together a family meeting and discuss what needs to be re-established, based on your family’s typical and individual school routines. This family meeting could take place a week (or so) before school starts back up again. Talk about aspects of the plan in normal conversations throughout that week, too. Though you will not implement most of these routines until the day preschool starts, it is important to slowly get your child back on track for an ideal bedtime beforehand, though.
- Create a fun chart with your preschooler. This chart (made ideally after a family meeting) can be a fun activity to show the specific things your child will need to do each school morning. Examples include: eat breakfast, brush your teeth, get changed, grab your bag, etc. The order does not matter, but it is good to show your preschooler exactly what will be expected!
- Before school starts, make an effort to talk with your child’s new preschool teacher on more than one occasion. An in-person meeting is essential, but you can also write the teacher an email, for example. Establish different lines of communication so that you and your teacher can establish an ideal routine for the best way to communicate on behalf of your child.
- Make school supply shopping turn into something fun instead of tedious! This can help your child gear up for school (physically and mentally)! If the vibe is more of a “date” with your child than a “checklist item” to do with your child, then there may be more excitement for your preschooler to jump on board with other school routines.
Though your child (and you) will soon have some re-adjustments, being prepared and excited will help your child with the back-to-school process!
