Easy Ways to Keep Your Preschooler’s Room Organized

Easy Ways to Keep Your Preschooler’s Room Organized at Kids 'R' Kids Spring West, preschool, daycare, childcare

The phrases “a preschooler” and “a naturally organized room” will more than likely never go hand in hand! Thankfully, there are a few ways to help in this potentially stressful organizing feat. Below are a few easy ways to help keep your preschooler’s room organized.

Allow your preschooler to participate in the initial organization/development plan.

If you buy new shelving units, let your preschooler help pick them out and help put them together. If you buy new organizational cubes, let your preschooler choose the colors. Allow your child to help decide where things should go in the room. Making the organizing plan together will help get your preschooler on board with the new organizing methods you develop as a family.

Keep things low and labeled.

Try to make shelving units be very reachable for your preschooler. Label any cubes with pictures so that your child can easily find where toys belong at the end of the day.

Read superhero cleaning books together.

Below are two superhero books that help teach preschoolers about the importance of keeping their space tidy. A fun book is always a good motivation to do something he may not be excited about trying.

  • Superheroes Don’t Clean Up Their Rooms…Or Do They? by Zack Bush and Laurie Friedman
  • Clean Up Kids to the Rescue! by Sunny Mai

Make clean-up seem like a game.

For a few minutes each day, play “flashlight tag.” You can shine a flashlight on items while your preschooler runs to put them away before you move the light on the next item. You can also play “beat the clock” where you set the timer for five minutes and see if your child can put everything away in that timeframe.

The how you do your process is not nearly as important as the doing of your process. Consistency of your plan will bring positive and more organized results for your preschooler’s room. Keeping the process fun will help along the way.
