Helping Preschoolers Give from the Heart

Helping Preschoolers Give from the Heart at Kids 'R' Kids Spring West, preschool, daycare, childcare

The holidays are a great time to start teaching preschoolers about gift giving.  The best gifts are gifts from the heart, so below are a few ideas your preschooler can create for his loved ones.

Applesauce Ornaments

This craft is so simple and smells amazing!  You will need two jars of applesauce, two cups of cinnamon, string, and cookie cutters.  Mix the applesauce and cinnamon then roll out to a thickness of approximately half an inch.  Invite your preschooler to cut the dough into various shapes using cookie cutters.  Poke a hole in the top to add a hanger later.  A pencil or skewer works well for this step.  Bake the cutouts on  a greased cookie sheet for two hours at 200 degrees.  Once the ornaments are baked, string a piece of ribbon or string through the hole and tie!

Handprint Ornaments

It is no secret children grow quickly and adults love reminiscing about the days their children were little.  That is why this craft is sure to be a hit with your preschooler’s loved ones. Begin by making a simple salt dough with your preschooler.  Form the dough into flat circles a bit larger than your little one’s hand. Next, help your preschooler push his hand into the dough to form an impression of his hand.  Bake the handprint in the oven at 200 degrees for two to three hours or until dry.  The Imagination Tree has an adorable idea of turning these handprints into cute christmas trees!

Snow Globe Pictures

Begin this cute craft by taking a picture of your preschooler all bundled up to play in the snow.  Print and cut out her picture.  You will also need a small clear plastic plate, snow glitter (white glitter with shimmery pieces throughout), white paint, black or dark colored paper, and blue paper. Your preschooler’s family and friends are sure to enjoy these heartfelt gifts handmade by your precious preschooler!
