It\u2019s the start of a new decade and a great time to set some new patterns for you and your preschooler. Here are 5 fun ways for your family to start something new in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eat a Home-Cooked Meal Together at Least Once a Day.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Research shows that children who eat one home-cooked meal a day with their families do better socially, academically, and physically.<\/span><\/p>\n

Talk at the Table \u2014Highs & Lows.<\/span><\/h3>\n

When you\u2019re at the table eating, have each family member share their high and low for the day. They must tell why they chose each one. Ask question after each person shares.<\/span><\/p>\n

Turn Off the Screens. Turn On the Fun!<\/span><\/h3>\n

Science proves screen time diminishes preschoolers\u2019 attention spans making them more anxious and less able to concentrate. Because young minds are made to absorb everything, resist the temptation to use a screen to keep your child occupied. Instead, go \u201cold school.\u201d Color with crayons, play an age-appropriate board game, listen to music, go outside, or play family hide and seek.<\/span><\/p>\n

Move It! Move It!<\/span><\/h3>\n

The family that exercises together is happier and healthier. Get out on your bikes and trikes. Pedal around the block. Play freeze tag in the front yard. Organize a neighborhood game of kickball. Anything that gets your family\u2019s heart rate up will improve your health. And your kids will learn to love moving by doing it with you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Read Together As a Family.<\/span><\/h3>\n

Preschoolers whose loved ones read books to them have much bigger vocabularies than children whose families do not read to them. The more words a child learns, the greater their ability to read and write well in the future. Start reading stories together. You\u2019ll love all the places you\u2019ll go with your kids in their book adventures.<\/span><\/p>\n
