Preschoolers love to help and create new things! How about combining those two traits in the kitchen and enjoying some fun snacks together? Below are 4 ideas to help you and your little one get started.
Caterpillar Fruit Kabobs
Gather wooden skewers, grapes, strawberries, and frosting. Begin by sliding a grape about 1/3 of the way down the skewer. Keep adding grapes until you have about an inch left on the end. Cut the stem side of the strawberry off and slide it on the end with the cut side next to the grapes. Finally, dot a couple of eyes on with frosting and it is ready to enjoy!
Rainbow Grilled Cheese
This treat tastes just like regular grilled cheese, but it’s much prettier! Gather three or four small bowls and add shredded mozzarella cheese to them. Then, put just a few drops of food coloring into each bowl. Use a different color in each one. Mix the coloring and cheese together. Then, assemble and grill your sandwich as usual. Be creative in how many colors or the arrangement of colors you use on your sandwich and enjoy!
Hairy Hot Dogs
This is a simple and fun activity for kids because they love silly things! All you need are some hot dogs, spaghetti noodles, and a pot of boiling water to cook them in. After dividing the hot dogs into two or three sections each, show your toddler how to poke the uncooked spaghetti noodles through them long ways, and let your child do the rest. After each hot dog has been punctured, boil the hot dog and spaghetti mixture in a pot of water. The finished product will look like long-haired hot dogs!
Animal Faces Toast
Prepare some toast and spread your favorite sticky topping on such as marshmallow spread, Nutella, peanut butter, honey, etc. Gather various types of fruit and berries and slice them into edible pieces. Arrange the fruit on top of the toast to make an animal. Some fun suggestions are owls, bears, or monkeys, but use your imagination and see what else you can come up with!
There are tons of creative ideas out there and many use common household ingredients, so start exercising creativity in the kitchen with your preschooler today! Begin making memories with your child that will last a lifetime.
