Join the club! It is recommended that children get 2-4 servings of vegetables each day. Sadly, French fries do not count. While children\u2019s taste buds can be more sensitive than adults to the bitter aftertaste of certain vegetables, nutrition experts say that preschoolers can grow to like healthy vegetables with a little help from their parents.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Model<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lead by example! Children are more likely to eat a variety of vegetables if they see their parents eating them. Parents need to set an example and eat their veggies too. Plan a trip to the store and choose several new fruits and vegetables to try as a family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be Creative<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make fruits and vegetables look more appealing by using cookie cutters to cut them into fun shapes. Give them yogurt, nut butter, ranch, or something with which to dip or top their fruits and veggies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Explore\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a trip to the grocery store with your preschooler and purchase new produce they have never tried. Be sure to grab a few of their favorite produce selections as well while you are there. You could also make a game of it by challenging them to put one item of each color in the cart such as cauliflower for white, blueberries for blue, carrots for orange, tomatoes for red, etc. Discuss how your child would like the foods prepared when you get home.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At home, your child can help prepare the food by washing the produce, tearing lettuce, slicing certain fruits or vegetables, snapping peas, or even helping with the cooking. Kids are more likely to eat a food that they have a hand in preparing.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camouflage<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When all else fails, for those super picky eaters, camouflage the vegetables in other foods! Finely chopped or pureed vegetables can be added to casserole dishes, pasta sauces, soup, pizza, even desserts. Your preschooler most likely will not even realize she is eating vegetables.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep at it! Preschoolers may need to be exposed to foods several times before they want to taste them.
