What Should You Do with Pumpkin Guts? Some Fun Ideas for Your Preschooler

What Should You Do with Pumpkin Guts? Some Fun Ideas for Your Preschooler at Kids 'R' Kids Northern Greensboro, preschool, daycare, childcare

Before you know it, this Halloween will be a memory of the past. Plus, your pumpkins will not last forever. What should you and your preschooler do with your pumpkin guts? Here are four fun ideas to do with your preschooler.

Read Pumpkin-Themed Books Together Before Carving Your Own Pumpkin

National Geographic has a neat educational book called, “Seed, Sprout, Pumpkin Pie” by Jill Esbaum. It is a children’s book that shows pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving, and pumpkin pie in neat picture book form.

Margaret McNamara has a book called, “How many Seeds in a Pumpkin?” In this book, your preschooler can practice counting and analyzing skills while talking about all-things pumpkin seeds! Both books can help you and your preschooler to better explore pumpkin guts during your family pumpkin carving time.

Provide Sensory Play With the Guts

After carving your pumpkin, save all the guts that you want in order to give your preschooler the chance for sensory play opportunities with the seeds. Your child may first enjoy washing the seeds in a colander. If nothing else, though, your preschooler may enjoy playing with the washed seeds afterwards. You can put the seeds in a water bucket or in the tub, for example. Throw in some kitchen utensils so that your child can enjoy scooping, mixing, etc.

Save the Seeds for a Baking Opportunity

The pumpkin seeds offer great nutrition, and it is even better that you can have fun in the baking process. The website, Eating Well, has a neat recipe for roasting pumpkin seeds.

The website, Eating Richly, has a recipe called, “Diana’s Famous Pumpkin Gut Bread.” (You may have to scroll halfway down to see the recipe.)

Do Crafts Together

Using the pumpkin seeds, you and your preschooler can make a collage masterpiece. You could use any other fall-based items, too.

Thankfully, much fun can be had two-times over. Your preschooler can enjoy the pumpkin and the guts afterwards!
