Your preschooler may have a room full of toys, books galore, and a plethora of art supplies, but you are still sure to hear the words, “I’m bored!” This is because your little one may have trouble initiating new ideas of what to do. Below are a few ideas to bust your preschooler’s boredom.
Help in the Kitchen
Preschoolers love to help and do the things adults around them do on a daily basis. Take your preschooler into the kitchen for a baking or cooking lesson. Keep it simple with recipes that mostly include adding and mixing ingredients without using the stove or oven, so your little one can feel like he is doing all the work. One yummy recipe to try is energy bars. You will melt together ½ cup peanut butter, ¼ cup margarine, and 1 bag of miniature marshmallows in the microwave. Next, add 2 ½ cups Cheerios, 1 ½ cups Rice Krispies, ½ cup raisins, ½ cup peanuts, and ½ cup chocolate chips to a large bowl. Pour the melted mixture onto the cereal mixture and stir. Spread into a 9×13 pan, cut into bars, and cool.
Take your little one outside to make some beautiful artwork on your driveway or sidewalk. Encourage them to write motivational messages to neighbors or family members and add pictures.
Write a Letter
Help your preschooler write a letter or craft a card for a family member or friend they don’t get to see often. Show them how to add the address and stamp to the envelope and make a trip to the post office. This will surely beat some boredom and brighten someone else’s day!
Put on your swimsuits, grab your water guns, and head outside for an old fashion water fight! Kids versus parents will surely entertain your little one (and you) for a while!
These activities will not only help your little one be less bored, but will provide some great bonding time with your preschooler. That is a win-win situation and a wonderful way to make memories!
