Preschoolers are of the age that they are just now beginning to understand the nature and rituals involved in the holiday season. Take this special time in your child’s life to explore new family traditions that you can cultivate with your young one. Not sure where to start? Here are some ways you can find a new holiday tradition to celebrate with your preschooler:
Check Community Calendars
Local magazines, online websites and other community calendars are bustling with opportunities to create family memories by attending annual events. A great resource is your community’s main street organization, which often hosts free or low-cost events that are almost always family-friendly. Holiday fare isn’t limited to just visiting Santa or viewing Christmas lights. Is your preschooler ready to take in a holiday play? Many theatres use this time of year to produce annual productions of holiday classics that are fun for the whole family.
Check Social Media
Social media is great for finding your next holiday outing in many ways. First of all, check in with your friends to see what they are doing with their children. Can you make your next big event a multi-family holiday tradition? Other social media sites, such as Pinterest or certain family blogs, are great resources for finding arts and crafts you can do with your family (salt dough ornaments, handmade holiday cards and the like).
Talk It Out
When all else fails, take the time to talk to your child about what they want to do over the holiday season. This is a great time for them to explore all of the ideas, celebrations and traditions that make this time of year truly magical. Talk to your preschooler about how you can make this month special to them!
