Tips to Manage Your Child’s Holiday Excitement

Tips to Manage Your Child’s Holiday Excitement at Kids 'R' Kids North Sugar Land, Daycare, childcare, preschool, learning academy

The holidays are busy and exciting which make them the most wonderful time of the year! With preschoolers, sometimes this holiday excitement can be stressful for parents. Try our suggestions below to help manage this excitement and cut down on the stress it may cause!

Stick to a Schedule

Holiday excitement is amplified when school is out and special activities start happening instead! Mitigate this change by trying to stick to your child’s normal schedule even during the holidays. If your child takes a nap every day or goes to bed at the same time every night, try to keep up with that even during such a busy season. Maintaining your established routine will help your child handle all the emotions of the season.

Take Breaks from the To-Do List

It can be difficult to get all our errands done with children any day of the year, but it is exponentially more difficult when there are extra people, lots of decorations, and toys around every corner! Instead of trying to run errand after errand, take some breaks to help get your child’s energy out. Some of our favorite ideas are visiting the library or playing at the park.

Limit the Sweets

Even though Halloween is over, there still seem to be sweets around every corner with the holidays approaching! If your preschooler is like most, they have plenty of energy without a sugar rush. By limiting the cookies, candy canes, and hot chocolate, you will also limit the sugar rush craziness and the inevitable crankiness after the sugar wears off.

Give Back

Amidst the craziness of the holiday season, ground your child and family by finding a way to give back to your community. There are tons of volunteer opportunities available, such as stocking the food pantry or working at the soup kitchen. Take advantage of this opportunity to slow down and truly remember the reason for the season. When your children participate in something as meaningful as volunteering, they will gain perspective around the season and learn it is not just about them and presents.

We encourage you to give these suggestions a try as you navigate the holiday season and a sure to be excited preschooler!
