{"id":60000000409,"date":"2021-09-27T16:42:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T16:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/new-territory-telfair\/?p=60000000409"},"modified":"2021-09-27T16:42:26","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T16:42:26","slug":"helping-preschoolers-upcycle-their-halloween-pumpkins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/new-territory\/2021\/09\/27\/helping-preschoolers-upcycle-their-halloween-pumpkins\/","title":{"rendered":"Helping Preschoolers Upcycle Their Halloween Pumpkins"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-image wp-image--no-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-60000000410 \" src=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/new-territory-telfair\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/60\/2021\/09\/upcycling.jpg\" alt=\"Helping Preschoolers Upcycle Their Halloween Pumpkins at Kids 'R' Kids New Territory, preschool, daycare, childcare\" width=\"1827\" height=\"1216\" \/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The spooky holiday is over, but you are left with a few pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns haunting your house.\u00a0 Your preschooler may be reluctant to tell her round orange prizes goodbye.\u00a0 Luckily, there are ways to repurpose those pumpkins before your preschooler has to say her final goodbyes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feed the Wildlife<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pumpkin is a safe and healthy snack for many animals in the wild.\u00a0 It is also an easy treat you can prepare for them with your preschooler.\u00a0 Simply cut the pumpkin into large chunks and leave in areas of your yard.\u00a0 Once you have left the tasty orange treats for the wildlife to enjoy, find a quiet place to watch as the critters come to enjoy their snack.\u00a0 This also lends an opportunity for your preschooler to learn about the different animals that live in your area and how to respect them and their habitat.\u00a0 Alternatively, you can take the pumpkins to a local farm or wildlife refuge for the animals to enjoy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pumpkin Bowling<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This activity may take a bit more preplanning, as you need ten empty plastic bottles.\u00a0 Weigh the bottles down with water or rice and arrange them like bowling pins.\u00a0 Play a friendly game of pumpkin bowling with your preschooler!\u00a0 If you\u2019d like to make this a learning activity, add numbers to the bottles.\u00a0 You can ask your preschooler which number she knocked down or count the ones down or still standing.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bird Feeder<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cut your pumpkin in half horizontally.\u00a0 If you haven\u2019t already removed the seeds, remove the seeds and set them aside to dry.\u00a0 Add bird seed to the bottom half of the pumpkin.\u00a0 You can insert thick wooden skewers or wooden dowels for the birds to use as a perch, but use caution as these can be dangerous for your preschooler!\u00a0 Once the pumpkin seeds are dry, you can add them to the bird seed mix.\u00a0 Set your pumpkin outside and do some bird watching with your curious little one!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fall Collage\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you haven\u2019t carved or cut into your pumpkin, your preschooler and you can turn it into a festive fall decoration.\u00a0 Collect leaves, acorns, pine cones, and any other decorations that remind your child of the season.\u00a0 Have your preschooler direct you in hot gluing the pieces onto the pumpkin.\u00a0 This is a great activity for language development and using prepositions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hopefully, you have found an idea or two to upcycle those Halloween pumpkins so your preschooler can enjoy them a bit longer!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you enjoyed this blog, please take a look at our school\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/new-territory-telfair\/blog\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">blog page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
