We show our children that we love them every day, but Valentine\u2019s Day deserves an extra dose of love! How perfect that it falls on the weekend this year!\u00a0 There are so many ways you can make it special for your preschooler and others in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Family Activities<\/span><\/h4>\n

Whether it\u2019s doing something one-on-one or including the whole family, small children love to do things with their parents.\u00a0 Make memories together by spending time together.\u00a0 You could make some heart shaped pancakes for breakfast, or create a unique Valentine\u2019s Day themed t-shirt to wear. Cut out some heart shaped clues and have a treasure hunt (with all the cards, candy, and goodies as the prize, of course)!\u00a0 Use some of the hearts to write things you love about your family.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reading together is not only fun, it is a great way to build attention span and vocabulary in young children.\u00a0 <\/span>Happy Valentine\u2019s Day, Curious George<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The Berenstain Bears\u2019 Funny Valentine <\/span><\/i>are two of many great options for reading together on Valentine\u2019s Day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Community Activities<\/span><\/h4>\n

Not only do you want to teach your kids to love their family, you also want to teach them to show love to their community.\u00a0 Even with social distancing rules in place, there are ways you can reach out to others.\u00a0 Call a nursing home and ask if you can drop off some candy or cards.\u00a0 Buy some treats to drop off at the local fire or police station.\u00a0 Leave a card for your postal worker or favorite librarian.\u00a0 There may be a pediatric ward at the hospital that would love to pass out cards and goodies to the children there for you.\u00a0 Even putting on some gloves and picking up trash in the local park can show your child how to love the community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Get your creative juices flowing and have fun spending time with your young ones at home and throughout the community this Valentine\u2019s Day!<\/span><\/p>\n
