This is the perfect time of year to sit down with your preschooler and help them remember all of the things to be thankful for in this special time of year. Here are three ways you can start practicing thankfulness with your preschooler today!

Begin with Reflection

The first step to thankfulness is to remember all of the positive things in your life that have made you happy over the past year. Help your preschooler remember some of the great moments they’ve had lately, and who specifically made that happen for them. Encourage your young one to look past material happiness such as toys or gifts and instead think of the people and experiences that he or she can be thankful for. If your child is having trouble remembering, help guide them through the process.

Make a Journal

Journaling can be a great way to record memories, as well as important events that impact your child’s life. Using a small notebook, encourage your preschooler to write about their experiences and what they are personally thankful for. Since many preschoolers don’t have a great grasp of writing just yet, play with the idea of an art journal, where they draw pictures of their happy moments and memories from the past year. As an added bonus, you can encourage your child to keep up with their “Thankfulness Journal” year-round, so you can have a guide to reference next year when reflecting on positive memories.

Write a Letter

If your preschooler feels thankful for the actions of someone, let them know about it! Help your child to craft a quick letter or postcard to a family member, friend, or teacher who had a great impact on his or her life this year. You and your child can write it out together or type it up on the computer, but be sure your kiddo includes a personal touch, such as a hand-drawn picture to give thanks to that special someone in their life! Living thankfully is an important step in a child’s growth. Start encouraging thankfulness this November, and going forward you can cultivate it year-round.

Want to learn more about Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of New Territory located in Sugar Land, Texas?
