Preschooler-Friendly Chores

Preschooler-Friendly Chores

Although chores normally have a negative connotation, it is possible to make them fun and enjoyable for your preschooler! By starting them out with easy tasks they can perform on their own, they will hopefully develop a strong work ethic and enjoy helping around the house as they grow older. Here are three ideas to help you involve your preschooler in routine housework!

  • Have them interact in each step of the process! If you’re putting dishes away, have your preschooler put away some that are easily accessible to them. If you’re taking the trash out, have your preschooler help put a new trash bag in the trash can. Even if your little one isn’t necessarily able to do the chore alone, they can still have an active part in learning how things are done.
  • Create a reward system! Who doesn’t love to be rewarded after they’ve completed a task? By creating an incentive for your preschooler, they will hopefully be more motivated to complete their assigned chore. Ideas for rewards include getting to play their favorite game with you, getting to go to the park, or getting their favorite snack later in the day!
  • Make chore time into a game! Chores don’t have to be dreaded around your house. Create games around the chores you would like your preschooler to help you with. If toys need to be picked up, time your little one to see how fast they can finish. If the laundry needs to be folded, see how many socks your preschooler can match up.

Chores no longer have to be a bore! Involve your preschooler in your day-to-day tasks and teach them valuable lessons along the way.
