How to Teach Preschoolers to Respect Nature

How to Teach Preschoolers to Respect Nature at Kids 'R' Kids of New Territory, childcare, daycare, children

In order for children to develop a love and appreciation for nature, it is important for them to have opportunities to explore the outdoors and learn about the different functions of the natural world. Here are 5 natural fun-omenon that you and your preschooler can appreciate together!

The Changing of the Seasons

Teach your preschooler about the seasons and how they affect the natural world around them. For example, in the spring they can look for new flowers and baby animals, in the summer they can enjoy the longer days and warmer weather, in the fall they can watch the leaves change color and in the winter they can see the frosty breath they make.

The Water Cycle

The water cycle is a great way to teach your child about the movement of water on Earth. You can explain how the sun evaporates the water, which forms clouds, and then the water falls back down to Earth as rain or snow.

The Phases of the Moon

The moon goes through different phases throughout the month, which your child can see if they look up at the sky at night. You can explain how the moon reflects the light of the sun and that is why it looks different at different times.

The Changing of the Tide

The tide goes in and out twice a day, and you can often find seashells or other interesting things that have been left behind by the tide. Teach your child about how the tide is caused by the gravitational pull of the moon.

The Life Cycle of a Plant

A plant starts as a seed, which germinates and grows into a plant, and grows flowers or something to produce more seeds (like fruit!). Help your child plant a seed and watch it grow to see this process in action.

The process of explaining the world around them allows children to better understand the role they play in taking care of the environment – the same way it takes care of us!
