Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Spring Break Family Staycation Ideas

Family vacations can be expensive, hard to plan, and stressful! That’s why many families with preschoolers are starting to opt for the staycation – all the fun and none of the stress. These creative staycation ideas are sure to be a hit with your preschoolers.

Backyard Camping

Camping is such a fun family vacation idea, but sometimes all the packing and planning can seem daunting. Instead of packing up everything, go camping in your backyard! You can do everything you’d do while camping, setting up tents, building a fire, playing games by lantern-light, and roasting s’mores, but just in the comfort of your own backyard! Best part, you can still use the bathroom and shower inside.

Go Geocaching

Geocaching is a giant treasure hunt! People from all over the world have hidden small “geocaches,” or trinkets, in parks, hiking trails, and all sorts of places. Using a smartphone app can help you locate the geocaches, but regardless, your family will love exploring together and finding little treasures along the way!

Run a Race

Do some research to try and find a race in your town or one nearby! There are tons of fun, creative races out there–ones that involve obstacle courses, mud, even paint! Try to find one that will excite your children. Spend a few weekends before the race training for it, and when the race comes, make a whole day of it! After the race is over, take some finish line pictures, then head out to your family’s favorite breakfast spot. This is a day they will remember for years to come!

Just like vacations, you can cater staycations to your family’s needs! If none of these ideas will work, try to think of some that will. Other ideas we’ve tried in the past are attending sporting events, visiting aquariums or museums, and hosting at-home movie marathons. With less stress and just as much fun, staycations can be a great option for you and your family!
