{"id":63000000366,"date":"2021-09-27T16:20:22","date_gmt":"2021-09-27T16:20:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/missouri-city\/?p=63000000366"},"modified":"2021-09-27T16:20:22","modified_gmt":"2021-09-27T16:20:22","slug":"upcycling-pumpkins-with-preschoolers-after-halloween","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/missouri-city\/2021\/09\/27\/upcycling-pumpkins-with-preschoolers-after-halloween\/","title":{"rendered":"Upcycling Pumpkins with Preschoolers after Halloween"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"wp-image wp-image--no-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-63000000367 \" src=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/missouri-city\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/63\/2021\/09\/upcycling.jpg\" alt=\"Upcycling Pumpkins with Preschoolers after Halloween at Kids 'R' Kids Missouri City, preschool, daycare, childcare\" width=\"1827\" height=\"1216\" \/><\/figure><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Halloween is over and you have a pumpkin or two lying around your house.\u00a0 There are ways to repurpose that pumpkin and enjoy it a bit longer with your preschoolers, as opposed to tossing it into the trash or watching it rot!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Feed the Wildlife<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Wildlife love pumpkins and it is a safe, healthy treat for them.\u00a0 If you live in an area where you\u2019re lucky enough to have wildlife visit your yard, cut the pumpkin into large chunks and then place the chunks around your yard.\u00a0 Stake out with your preschooler to watch the critters come and enjoy the pumpkin.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t live in an area where wildlife visits your yard, take the cut up pumpkin chunks to a local trail or farm to donate and visit the animals who will enjoy the snack.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pumpkin Bowling<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collect ten empty plastic bottles.\u00a0 You can fill them with water or rice to weigh them down.\u00a0 Set the plastic bottles up like bowling pins and use the pumpkin as a big orange bowling ball!\u00a0 Your preschooler is sure to enjoy watching the bottles tumble as he rolls the pumpkin into them.\u00a0 You can make this activity a number recognition activity by adding numbers to the bottles and asking your preschooler which numbers he knocked down.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bird Feeder<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cut your pumpkin in half horizontally.\u00a0 If you haven\u2019t already removed the seeds, remove the seeds and set aside to dry.\u00a0 Add bird seed to the bottom half of the pumpkin.\u00a0 You can insert thick wooden skewers or wooden dowels for the birds to use as a perch, but use caution as these can be dangerous for your preschooler!\u00a0 Once the pumpkin seeds are dry, you can add them to the bird seed mix.\u00a0 Set your pumpkin outside and do some bird watching with your curious little one!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fall Collage\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you haven\u2019t carved or cut into your pumpkin, you can turn it into a festive fall decoration with your preschooler.\u00a0 Collect leaves, acorns, pine cones, and any other decorations that remind your child of the season.\u00a0 Have your preschooler direct you as to where to hot glue the items onto the pumpkin.\u00a0 This is a great activity for language development and using prepositions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hopefully, you have found an idea or two to upcycle those Halloween pumpkins so your preschooler can enjoy them a bit longer!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you enjoyed this blog, please take a look at our school\u2019s<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kidsrkids.com\/missouri-city\/blog\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">blog page<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.
