Changing seasons provide an extra special time for preschoolers to learn about and explore their changing surroundings. These surroundings bring up new questions and give them the opportunity to make new observations. The activities below are a great way to celebrate the arrival of spring and take advantage of the learning opportunities!
Raising Butterflies
As a child, raising butterflies was one of the most memorable activities my family did together. This is a perfect activity for children who are curious about animals and nature. Once you purchase a caterpillar and butterfly garden kit, your family can watch the transformation occur. Your child will be so excited to check on the progress every morning!
Outdoor Observation
Spring is a great time to get outside and observe their surroundings! Blooming flowers and chirping birds and sunshine are perfect for taking a walk and having your child spend some time noticing what’s around them. Bring along a journal and have them record or draw whatever they see!
Flower Stamping
On your next walk or trip to the park, have your child gather some wildflowers that catch their eye. When you’re back home, place some paper out and squeeze different colors of paint onto a plate. Your child can use the flowers as “stamps” by dipping the top of the flowers into paint and pressing them onto the paper. Each flower will create a unique design and your preschooler will love their new piece of art!
The rebirth after winter provides the perfect opportunity to slow down and enjoy the surroundings! Take advantage of this time by trying out these activities and soaking up the surroundings and joy of spring.
