Spring has sprung and brought with it a beautiful variety of colors! Now is an excellent time to do some fun rainbow themed activities with your preschooler.
If you have access to a craft store or dollar store, you should be able to find prisms in the children’s art section. After you have painted them and let them dry, hang them in a window that receives good sunlight and watch the colors dance around the room with your toddler!
There are various ways you can use multicolored beads, buttons, or other small objects to have some rainbow fun. One way is to let your child sort them out by color. Lay out a sheet of colored paper to match each colored bead, button, or object you have collected. Let your child match the object to the corresponding paper color by laying it on top of the paper. After they finish, you can mix it up and let them do it again or draw a rainbow on a separate sheet of paper and help your preschooler glue items of each color to it to create a three-dimensional rainbow. With beads, you could also design some rainbow necklaces or bracelets for friends and family to wear.
Snack time can be turned into some magical rainbow fun simply by eating a rainbow. Gather bite sized fruits and berries of multiple colors and arrange them into a rainbow. Discuss the different colors, tastes, and smells of the fruits while you enjoy eating them together.
Whether you are at home, outside, or on the go, make it a point to notice all the various colors of the rainbow in common things all around you. Have your child find 5 green things or 3 purple things. Then move on to the next color. “I Spy” is also a fun way to practice colors. Go through each color of the rainbow and see if your toddler can find what you spy. Then, switch and you be the guesser!
Eating, sorting, painting, playing a game, no matter what you choose, have a wonderful, colorful time with your child this spring!
