Emotional intelligence is a huge factor in early childhood development, and \u201cwhen children learn how to calm themselves down, use language to express their feelings and treat others with kindness, they are laying the foundation for future success and wellness.\u201d (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ww2.kqed.org\/mindshift\/2015\/04\/13\/the-benefits-of-helping-preschoolers-understand-and-discuss-their-emotions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deborah Kris<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Play games like \u201cname that face\u201d with your preschooler.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Give names to the feelings that they are experiencing. If you see that they are experiencing frustration, tell them what that feeling is called. The sooner they can learn to identify emotions, the sooner they can learn to regulate them. Make it fun by helping them with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kiddiematters.com\/emoji-feeling-faces-feelings-recognition\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this craft<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that uses emoji to label and name different emotions. Hold up a face and ask \u201cWhat is this face feeling?\u201d This exercise will build emotional intelligence as it relates to other people as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Make a mood \u2018o meter with your preschoolers.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is very important to normalize emotions instead of labeling them as good or bad. With <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.com\/pin\/442197257135052929\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this Mood \u2018O Meter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, you can let your child express how they feel in a safe and judgment free environment. When they get home from school at the end of the day, help them to make a habit of setting their mood meter to match what they\u2019re feeling.
