As you probably already know, preschoolers and patience are two words that typically do not go together. Your kiddo is always on the move and is constantly going from one task to another. That is totally okay! Patience is hard for everyone at times, so here are tips to practice patience with your preschooler.

Small Goals

You can’t expect your preschooler to wait 6 months to get that toy that they’ve been wanting right off the bat. The gift of patience doesn’t develop that quickly. Start setting realistic, smaller goals for your little one such as waiting to fill up their milk cup. Your preschooler may get antsy at first, but as time goes on, your kiddo will become more patient. Your little one needs to learn that just because they want something doesn’t mean that they will instantly get it. This lesson will take them a long way in life.

Taking Turns

An easy way to teach your child is to go to the local park or play area. There’s a chance that you will have to wait to push him or her on the swing because it’s already occupied. At first, your child may have a hard time understanding the concept of taking turns. After a few trips to the park, your kiddo will learn that it’s completely okay to wait their turn. It’s a part of life, and this is a great first step for teaching them patience!

Less Instant Gratification

Our world is filled with instant gratification. It’s at our very own fingertips! If we aren’t careful, our kiddos will think that everything they want will be right in front of their eyes in seconds. This is not a way to raise our children nor teach patience. For example, if your preschooler wants a new pet, then you have to show them that they can’t get a furry friend instantly. They must wait until the time is right for your family! Waiting will help your children understand that sometimes the things that matter in life aren’t instant.

Teaching patience takes time, but it is so worth it!

If you enjoyed these tips, you’ll want to check out our previous blog on Halloween Movies and Books for Preschoolers!

Want to learn more about Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Medlock Bridge located in Norcross, Georgia?
