Cookie Recipes to Make with Your Preschoolers

Cookie Recipes to Make with Your Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Medlock Bridge, preschool, daycare, childcare

There is something about the holidays that brings out the baker in everyone. Here are a couple of cookie recipes with a low list of ingredients and only a few simple steps. They are easy enough that your preschooler can make them!

Cereal Treats

Rice Krispie treats are a classic. Change things up by using a different type of cereal such as Honey Grahams, Corn Flakes, or Fruity Pebbles.

Ingredients: 5 tablespoons of butter, 10.5 oz. bag of mini marshmallows, 5 cups of cereal

Directions:

  1. Line and 8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter on the stove or in the microwave.
  3. Add the marshmallows to the pan and stir continuously with a silicone spatula until they are completely melted. Alternatively, you can add the marshmallow to a bowl and microwave in 20 second bursts, stirring in between until fully melted.
  4. Remove from heat and mix in the cereal. (After the cereal is incorporated, at this point, you could mix in chocolate chips, more marshmallows, sprinkles, pretzels, cookie pieces, etc.)
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared dish, press down, and then let sit for at least 2 hours before cutting.

Cake Mix Cookies

Ingredients: 1 box of cake mix, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup of vegetable oil

Optional: 1 ½ cups of mix-ins (chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, mini M&M’s, etc.)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all the ingredients until combined. (An adult may need to help get it mixed well.)
  3. Scoop 2 tablespoons worth of dough on a parchment lined baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
  4. Bake for 11-13 minutes.

What makes these cookies great is that you can change up the cake flavor and the mix-ins. Use a red velvet or lemon cake mix with white chocolate chips, a chocolate cake mix with peanut butter chips or Andes baking bits, or use a yellow cake mix with chocolate chips or M&M’s.

Sugar Cookies

One of the best parts of Christmas cookies is the decorating. Save time with refrigerated cookie dough! Your preschooler can still enjoy rolling out the dough and using cookie cutters. Prepare cookies according to the package directions. After they have cooled, decorate the cookies by covering them in frosting and candy pieces.
