Seasonal Changes: Springtime With Your Preschooler

Seasonal Changes: Springtime With Your Preschooler

The seasons changing are a great time for preschoolers to learn and explore. Changes around them will pose questions and provide an opportunity for new observations and understanding. Check out some of these springtime activities below to help you and your child make the most of the spring season.

Raising Butterflies

One of my favorite memories as a child was raising butterflies from caterpillars with a butterfly garden kit! Your child’s curiosity about animals and nature will make this the perfect activity for the spring. The experience of watching a caterpillar transform into a butterfly is not one they’ll soon forget!

Outdoor Observation

The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and the sun is hopefully shining! Spring is the perfect time to get outside and have your child observe their surroundings. Regrowth from winter is apparent all around if you and your child stop to notice. Have your child bring a journal with them as you go on a walk or to the park and record or draw the things around them!

Flower Stamping

Go on a hunt for wildflowers nearby your home and have your child pick a few of their favorites! When you get back home, lie out paper and squeeze several different colors of paint on a paper plate. Have your child dip the top of the flowers into the paint and then “stamp” it on the paper. They will have so much fun creating designs and each flower will make a unique stamp!

These activities will help you soak up and celebrate all the best parts of the spring! You will take advantage of the natural wonders around you to help your child learn more about their surroundings.
