The Meaning of the 4<\/b>th<\/b> of July<\/b><\/h4>\n

Before the Fourth of July festivities begin, take time to discuss the meaning of the holiday with your preschooler! The Fourth of July is a day to remember when the Declaration of Independence was adopted. The Declaration of Independence was written to separate the colonies from Great Britain and the rule of their king. Fifty-six men signed the Declaration on July 4, 1776, and now we take the 4<\/span>th<\/span> of July as a national holiday to remember this and celebrate our patriotism and freedom!<\/span><\/p>\n

The American Flag<\/b><\/h4>\n

Fourth of July means flag-themed everything. Take this opportunity to talk with your preschooler about the meaning behind our country\u2019s flag! The fifty stars on the flag represent the fifty states and the thirteen stripes represent the first thirteen colonies. Show your child the old iterations on the American flag from over the years or make a fun flag-related craft to help your child remember its meaning.<\/span><\/p>\n

Patriotic Activities<\/b><\/h4>\n

Last but not least, engage with your child in some patriotic activities to experience the meaning of the holiday. Attend a local parade, host a cook-out and pool party, bake a red, white, and blue dessert, or honor our nation\u2019s soldiers by writing a letter of thanks, sending a care package, or placing flags around your neighborhood.<\/span><\/p>\n

As you spend Fourth of July with your friends and family, keep in mind the meaning of Independence Day and take some time to reflect on what living in America means to you!<\/span><\/p>\n
