We know you have enough on your plate, so we chose our favorite experiments with things you have at home or can grab on your next grocery run.

Cleaning Pennies

While your child looks around the house for some dirty pennies, gather the supplies you’ll need for this experiment: vinegar, salt, and a glass jar. Once your child finds some pennies, have them pour ¼ cup of warmed vinegar into the jar. Then, have them stir in a teaspoon of salt until it’s dissolved, and then drop the pennies in. After five minutes, fish out the pennies and dry off with a paper towel. They will be so shiny! Repeat the process to see how bright they will get or try covering them in ketchup and see which solution works best.

How Clouds Make Rain

This science experiment will help answer a question our preschoolers have probably had before – why does it rain? Grab a clear jar and fill it with water, representing the air. Then add shaving cream on top to be the clouds! Finally, drop blue food coloring on top of the cloud until it breaks through. Help your child understand that when the water gets heavy enough in the clouds, it breaks through and starts raining!

Skittles Rainbow

Our last experiment involves something our preschoolers love – candy! You’ll need a plate with a lip, skittles, and water. Have your child place skittles around the edge of the plate in a pattern they choose. Then, pour water in the middle of the skittles, and before you know it you’ll have a beautiful rainbow!

These science experiments are the perfect activity for you and your preschooler because they are easy to do, fascinating for your child, and you might even have all the supplies at home already!

Want to learn more about Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Mableton located in Mableton, Georgia?
