St. Patrick’s Day Fun for Preschoolers

St. Patrick's Day Fun for Preschoolers at Kids 'R' Kids Mableton, preschool, daycare, childcare

Although St. Patrick’s Day started as a religious holiday, it has become a celebration of Irish culture for everyone on March 17th. For parents of preschoolers, each holiday brings the opportunity to celebrate in unique ways. Here are three ideas for some St. Patrick’s Day fun with your preschooler.

Leprechaun Trap

The night before St. Patrick’s Day, create a trap to catch a leprechaun. These traps can be as simple or elaborate as you like. Use a shoebox, laundry basket, or any other box to create the trap. Cover the box with paper or decorate with stickers and drawings. The leprechaun will only come at night and must be enticed with gold coins, Lucky Charms cereal, or whatever creative ideas you come up with. Leprechauns are very sneaky and do not like to be seen. In the morning, your preschooler should wake to see that the leprechaun has taken the treat they left and given them a small gift or treat instead.

Green Food

Celebrate the day by feasting on all things green! At breakfast, try making some green eggs and ham while reading the Dr. Seuss book. Add green food coloring to pancake mix or milk. For lunch, try serving up some naturally green foods – broccoli, celery, salad, grapes, or guacamole. For a special treat make a green shake or get a Shamrock shake at McDonald’s. Who knows? Maybe your preschooler will try some new foods while celebrating all things green!

Rainbow Crafts

Everyone knows that the leprechaun’s pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow! Have your preschooler use watercolors or finger paints to make rainbow art. Vanilla pudding with food coloring makes a fun and edible finger paint, too. If you have an eye dropper or medicine syringe around the house, let your preschooler experiment by adding food coloring to several cups of water, and then dropping the water into ice cube trays.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, may the luck of the Irish be with you!
