Are your preschoolers artsy and crafty? The end of the year is one of the most magical and happiest times for many people—especially those who love to get crafty! Here are some great winter crafts for you and your preschoolers that will turn your home into a winter wonderland in no time.
Paper Snowflakes
A classic winter craft, all this requires is paper and scissors. Have your kiddo fold a square piece of paper into smaller triangles until you have a good sized triangle that you can still cut through. Cut patterns into your triangle—just don’t cut the inner-most corner of your triangle, or it’ll fall apart! You can get extra crafty with these by using fun colored paper, or having your little ones color and add sparkles and other things to the paper before cutting. Just make sure everything is dry first and always use child-safe scissors!
Gingerbread House
This craft is fun for the whole family—and you get to eat it, too! Many stores sell gingerbread house kits with the design already cut into gingerbread pieces along with icing, gum drops, peppermint, and anything else you could possibly need to make a beautiful gingerbread house. If you love to bake, you can of course make everything in your own kitchen and get creative with your own house design.
Fluffy Snowmen
With some cotton balls and a little glue, you don’t need snow to build snowmen! Glue cotton balls onto construction paper to form the snowmen—you can pull the cotton balls apart to get wispier snowmen or keep the whole thing intact for fat, squishy creations. Your preschoolers can then cut out or draw a top hat, a carrot nose, and anything else they want their snowmen to wear—use household items like buttons and string to add to the fun. Afterwards, decorate the house with your creations and watch your little ones glow with pride.
Homemade Ornaments
Tell your kiddos that they can design their own ornaments to hang on the tree this year! An easy design for children of all ages is a popsicle stick snowflake. Use glitter glue to cover the popsicle sticks entirely in the color of their choosing, and once the sticks are dry, glue them into the shape of a snowflake. You can get as simple or intricate as you want with your snowflake—either way, it’ll look lovely on your tree once you attach some yarn or string to hold it . Have your preschooler sign and date the back of their ornament to keep the memories sweet for years to come.
These are just a few of the many crafty options for preschoolers during the wintertime—as long as everyone’s having fun and expressing themselves, you can’t go wrong!
