Introducing Fitness to Your Preschooler

Introducing Fitness to Your Preschooler

Living a fit and healthy lifestyle is very important for both parents and preschoolers! It is vital to encourage healthy living from an early start, and there are several ways in which you can incorporate fitness into your child’s everyday lifestyle.

Not sure how to get your child movin’ and groovin’? Physical fitness for little ones should be fun and creative, and the best part is that some of these ideas they might already be doing naturally!

Get sporty

If your child seems to be interested in sports, or if they just don’t know it yet, playing miniature versions of them is a great way of introducing the importance of fitness to your child. A small basketball hoop and ball in the backyard with mom and dad or siblings will do the trick, as well as a baseball bat and ball. Careful though, they might ask for a jersey soon enough!

Find your child’s inner fitness guru

There are tons of exercise kits and videos in bookstores, online, and on Youtube that teach preschool-friendly lessons regarding yoga, meditation, and even exercises with huge bouncy balls. All activities have age appropriate and difficulty options, and might even include some sit-ups for mom to do.

Cardio

Heart health is one of the most important aspects of overall fitness, and there just happens to be so many kid-friendly ways of getting the heart rate pumping. Jump rope, a good ol’ fashioned game of tag, or dancing to fun music are all ways of sneaking in cardio to your child’s day.
