Spring Cleaning Ideas with Children

Spring Cleaning Ideas with Children at Kids 'R' Kids Mableton, preschool, daycare, learning academy, childcare

If your closets are overflowing with bulky winter coats, snow boots, and a jumble of clothes that no longer fit, it’s time for some spring cleaning. Although it can seem daunting at first, decluttering will leave you and your family feeling stress free and ready to take on the month of March.

From old toys, to knick-knacks around the house, to books you’ve re-read hundreds of times, here are some ways to get organized and incorporate your preschooler in all the fun.

Electronic Incentives

Video games, handheld tablets, mobile devices, oh my! These days it seems like children thrive on the use of electronics. Motivate your kiddos to clean their rooms by allowing them a certain amount of time on their favorite electronics for each chore they complete. For example: They can earn fifteen minutes on the computer once they pick up clothing/toys on the floor and straighten up their bedroom.

Chores, chores, chores

By assigning specific, simple tasks, your preschool child can successfully and efficiently tackle one thing at a time. Instead of something vague such as “clean up your room,” try one of these more clear suggestions.

  • Make your bed.
  • Put your toys in the toy bin.
  • Bring your dirty clothes to the laundry room.

Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere.

Blasting fun music or singing cleaning-related songs will certainly get the whole family pumped about spring cleaning. You can even incorporate dancing into your cleaning routine as you vacuum, sweep, and make your way through the house. Turn up the tunes and get to work!

Remember, teamwork makes the dream work!

Rather than sending your children off to their rooms to complete their chores by themselves, work with them. Through this, you can ensure that they are doing the job properly, offer them encouragement, and enjoy quality time together. Two is better than one, right?
