For some, November is the official start of the big holiday season. While a large meal is upon you and your family, this Thanksgiving is also a great time to model thankfulness in specific ways with your preschooler. Here are some suggestions for modeling this season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Thankful Jar<\/span><\/h4>\n

Choose any jar that your preschooler can decorate in fall colors. Throughout the month of November, you and your child can then give ideas for which you are thankful. You can write these ideas on small pieces of paper for your child to put in the jar. At the end of the month (or on Thanksgiving Day), you can read these different ideas out loud.<\/span><\/p>\n

A Set of Thankful Letters<\/span><\/h4>\n

You and your preschooler can choose three different people that your child really appreciates. You can talk through reasons why your child likes each person. Encourage your child to draw each chosen person a picture to then mail before Thanksgiving. As the parent, you can write a little note on the drawing that says something like, \u201cMy child is thankful for you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A Simple Thankful Craft<\/span><\/h4>\n

Gather simple fall-themed crafty pieces (fall stickers, orange pom-poms, etc.) and have your child make a couple of simple crafts to then give out \u201con-the-spot\u201d to anyone your child wants. You can discuss different people you may come across on any given day who deserve appreciation. Allow your child to choose people to give this craft to, while out in public. Examples can include a library worker, grocery store clerk, the worker at the dry cleaners, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Proactive Thankfulness<\/span><\/h4>\n

Before Thanksgiving, you and your child can make small, inexpensive, and simple goodie bags to give out to people you appreciate and know you will encounter sometime in November. Your preschooler can then hand these out, as the receivers get to enjoy your child\u2019s smile and kind gesture.<\/span><\/p>\n

Though it is impossible (and unnecessary) to do all the above ideas, maybe there is one that grabs your attention as a possible way to model thankfulness for your preschooler.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
